Pre Production Quality Control
Every image that is submitted to us is assessed for suitability by our professional retouchers here in the UK. If there are any issues with the base image, we will ask for it to be retaken. This is a key step at the start of the process which ensures the resulting virtual headshots are of the highest standard possible.
Base Image Upscaling
We are the only virtual headshot provider that upscales base images to the highest level possible as part of our process. This step takes relatively low resolution camera-shot images and generates new pixels, which vastly increases the quality of the image before we begin turning it into a virtual headshot.
Retouched By Hand In the UK
Our clipping (cutting out) and retouch process is carried out entirely by hand. We do not use any AI tools, and every image is worked on individually. No bulk editing! When a user uploads their image, they can even make personalised requests for the retoucher who will be working on their image! This is always a favourite!

Can I use an existing image?
Absolutely! While it’s preferential for you to shoot your base image using our free guide, we are happy to work on an existing photograph and transform it into a professional, studio-style headshot.
Please note that the process is slightly different, and usually requires upscaling. If you have an image you would like turning into a usuable headshot, please get in touch.

Can a photo taken on a mobile phone look like a professional headshot?
Absolutely! The sample images you see on this page are actual virtual headshots taken on mobile phones. Any fairly modern (released in the last five years) mobile is capable of taking a high enough quality image for us to turn your photo into a professional looking headshot.
There are certain factors, such as lighting, that need to be considered, which is why we send you a handy guide on how to take a headshot in the same way that we would if we were shooting in person.
We do recommend that you do not use your phone’s front facing camera and it’s best to avoid using web cams.
Do you use AI to retouch virtual headshots?
Our virtual headshots are all hand retouched by our award-winning in house team here in the UK. They go through the exact same process as headshots that we have taken in person. This is particularly important when it comes to virtual headshots for whole teams- where variations in colour, lighting and exposure all need to be corrected to make the images look uniform. If you’re looking to include your branding in your virtual headshot, this needs to be done by an expert retoucher.
What if I can't get a good enough photo?
Our guide tells you everything that needs to be done to ensure a high quality virtual headshot. But don’t worry, if you submit an image that isn’t good enough to be edited, we will let you know and tell you what needs to be done to fix the issue.
Can I choose any background for my virtual headshot?
Absolutely! You can choose any colour, opt to have us add shadow (so it looks like a real photographic backdrop) or we can use images of your offices. There are no limits as to what can be used in the background. We can also create background scenes (at no extra charge) to include your branding. As part of the process, we include a free consultation where we go over the background options and we’re also happy to mock-up a few different options for you to choose from.
Our team is located all over the world- will the images still look consistent?
Yes! If everyone follows the free guide, the images will all look consistent. There are of course always some variations between the self-shot images, but we correct these as part of the retouch process. Virtual headshots are truly the only way to get complete consistency across all of a remote teams’ headshots.
