When I arrived at Sarah’s beautiful home, she probably thought I’d lost it when I suggested shooting her new LinkedIn headshot in her shed.

The Setup
The Result
As a headshot photographer that works largely on location, I’m often on the road travelling to business people and entrepreneurs who need a new headshot for their LinkedIn profile. Of course, no two locations are ever the same and an important part of what I do is being able to quickly scout the best place at someone’s home or office for us to shoot in.
Prior to the shoot, Sarah had sent me some sample images that she liked the look of, and if I was going to get close to that, we needed a very specific lighting set up. Nowhere in the house was going to work for this look. So I suggested the shed.
It was threatening to rain, the shed has spiders in it and it all round just sounded like a terrible idea. But I knew it would work and Sarah was happy to roll with it.
What I needed was a mix of strobe lighting and daylight as a fill, but all coming from behind the camera. Placing Sarah just inside the slightly closed barn doors with a softbox overhead gave me exactly that.
We’d decided to use one of our hand painted canvas backdrops, and while I was getting set up I noticed an old chair in the corner of the garage that looked like it was made for the background we were shooting against, so we pulled that over.
Everything came together, the sun came out and I was very happy with the results but, most importantly, so was Sarah.
It just goes to show- if you trust the professional, even when what they’re saying seems pretty weird, and let them work their magic, the results will be worth it!
My experience with James was nothing short of brilliant. I absolutely hate having my photo taken (run a mile at a camera) but it was time for the selfies and other scrappy pictures on LinkedIn etc to be replaced by something slicker! James came to my house, totally put me at ease (we had lovely chat) and listened to everything I did and didn’t want. Set up appeared to be effortless and within 20 minutes of starting taking pictures (never feeling rushed) we were done - and they were with me for picking out my favourites within hours. I now have two beautiful photos I will be proud to use! Thank you James! You are a joy and your service a breeze.
